Dec 07, 2010. /Lesprom Network/. True North Plywood has shut down in Cochrane, Canada, indefinitely laying off its staff. The plant had directly employed 200 people, with 100 more in outsourcing, as ForestTalk reported. The town of Cochrane has lost 12% of its paying jobs with the plan closure. A crisis team has been put together by the town, made up of leading experts in the fields of forest management, corporate financing, marketing, business consulting, engineering and law, to seek a platform to reopen the plant. Columbia Forest Products in Hearst recently purchased the timber reserves of True North Plywood. The sale of the wood has indicated to the workers that the plant’s closure is possibly permanent, and not just a temporary closure.
