Among the main forest certification systems mentioned by the UN is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) – 20.2% of the total amount of certified forests; Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes (PEFC) – 30.2%, Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) – approximately 25.8%; Canadian Standards Association (CSA) – 17.4%; American Tree Farm System (ATFS) – 6.4%. In terms of demand for certified timber, 71% of European consumers prefer 71% and 29% prefer PEFC. The main suppliers of certified timber to Europe are Sweden, Finland and Germany. In the next few years the experts of the UN economics commission expect a rapid growth in forest certification.
