May 05, 2014. /Lesprom Network/. Finland produced to 270,000 tons of wood pellets in 2013. Production increased by 7%, or 18,000 tons, as Metla said in the press release received by Lesprom Network.

Wood pellets exports from Finland were 78,000 tons. Exports were up last year, following a drop of 28%, but remained significantly lower than the mid-2000s during the boom years. Almost all of the exports were to Sweden and Denmark. An average export price of wood pellets amounted to Euro 133 / ton and the total value of exports amounted to Euro 10.4 million.

Imports of wood pellets were 60,000 tons, more than doubled from the previous year. Imports nearly two-thirds came from Russia and the rest mainly from Latvia and Norway. The average import price (CIF) was Euro 120 / ton and imports amounted to Euro 7 million.

Domestic pellet production based on consumption increased by 30% of 223,000 tons, it was higher than ever before. Domestic consumption of wood pellets for heating and power plants increased by 30% year over year.
