Jan 05, 2009. /Lesprom.com/. Upward of 90 unionized employees at Norampac's Trenton mill who received layoff notices in November will be back on the job early January, Lesprom Network informed according to Sun Media.
The November layoff notices were initially part of an extended shutdown of the plant starting in December and carrying over into January. Company officials had cited turmoil in the marketplace as the reason for issuing the temporary layoff notices.
Norampac employs 140 workers at the Trenton, Ontario. The affected workers are members of Local 1470 of the Communications, Energy and Papermakers Union. The company has been anticipating the extended shutdown for several months due to the current economic slowdown. The extended shutdown is purely market driven. The plant produces corrugated 'medium' paper used in boxes.
