Jun 21, 2007. /Lesprom Network/. Deputy governor of Krasnoyarsk kraj Andrey Gnezdilov held on June 21, 2007 a business meeting with the representatives of Swedish company Varyag Resources АВ which had acquired in May a sawmill earlier owned by IKEA. Due to IKEA investments in 2004 a sawmill ZAO SMP was constructed near Boguchany but it hasn’t started operating yet. “In the spring 2006 we held a presentation for investors of resources available in the region and now we can note that one of the projects of Varyag Resources has received a continuation”, Gnezdilov said. In course of the meeting Varyag Resources AB manager Alex Williams told Andrey Gnezdilov that at present the plant is under construction. “We decided to entirely renew the industrial complex. All equipment has been purchased in June and will be supplied to Boguchansky LPC in the near future,” Mr. Williams said. “The total volume of investments is estimated now at approximately $17 million”. He also said that the majority of 300 jobs which will be created at the mill will be staffed with local population. Mill’s productive capacity at the first phase will total 100 000 cubic meters of sawnwood annually and than will be increased to 170 000 cubic meters. Deputy governor responsible for the development of the forest industry noted that he estimates positively the activities of Varyag Resources in the krajj and will support it in future. “The fact that the mill which was idle for a couple of year will start production is undoubtedly positive. Especially when it is considered that the share of wood which will be processed in the kraj will be increased and the percentage of roundwood export will be decreased,” Gnezdilov said. “Boguchansky timber company is registered in Boguchansky region allowing to supplement local budget and add jobs. I’m confident that this day next year we will mark a new wood-processing mill at the industrial map of the North of the kraj.”
