Andorra recycled 2,916 tonnes of glass in 2004, up 14% year-on-year. The recycled glass accounts for 78% of the country's total consumption, which is already above the European Union (EU) 2008 target for glass recycling.
Andorra recycled 401 tonnes of packaging in 2004, which was 12% of the total consumption and was still far behind the EU targets. The selective waste collection of packaging was initiated in Andorra in the last quarter of 2003.
The annual collection of glass material in Andorra has been rising since 1998.
The European Union has set its 2008 targets for recycling glass, paper and cardboard at 60%, for metal at 50%, and for plastic - at 22.5%.
