Feb 02, 2009. /Lesprom.com/. On 7 January 2009, Oy Metsä-Botnia Ab announced significant curtailments on its Finnish mills due to weakened pulp demand and decreased prices. The statutory negotiations related to possible lay-offs of personnel are now concluded.
Botnia will curtail its production at its Finnish mills in the first phase by continuous curtailing of production speed, the company said in a statement received by Lesprom Network.
The company will follow the development of the market situation closely, and in case further curtailments will be necessary, the production stops will be planned separately for each mill. During these production stops, the company will in the first hand keep already planned trainings as well as give the employees the possibility to keep accrued days off and holidays.
