Jan 29, 2010. /Lesprom Network/. Brazilian softwood sawlog prices in the 4Q of 2009 fell 11% from their peak in 2008, Wood Resource Quarterly reported, as TTJ informed Lesprom Network.
Falling exports, resulting in reduced demand for sawlogs, has led to the lower log prices. Pine sawlog prices had increased almost fourfold from 2003-2008 but came to an end in late 2008 when prices fell 30% in six months. During 2009, prices increased again and were 22% higher in the 4Q compared to the same period in 2008.
The prices are below the Global Sawlog Price Index at $68.87 per cubic meter, but are much higher than in North America and Russia.
