Cascades reports C$41 million net loss in the 4Q
Feb 26, 2010. Cascades Inc. reported 4Q net loss C$41 million or C$0.42 per share, compared to a loss of C$18 million or C$0.19 per share in the year-ago quarter.
Feb 26, 2010. /Lesprom Network/. Cascades Inc. reports it had a C$41million net loss in the 4Q, due primarily to the writedown of a pulp mill and the impact of foreign exchange fluctuations.
The quarter's revenue also fell to C$952 million from C$1.02 billion, due to a significant drop in most of the company's selling prices and the appreciation of the Canadian dollar, partly offset by a 4.5% increase in shipments, as The Canadian Press reported.
The net loss amounted to 42 cents per share, which was deeper than the loss of C$18 million or 19 cents per share reported a year earlier.
Excluding items, net earnings were C$26 million higher than C$18 million in the same quarter a year ago.
Sales for the quarter declined to C$0.95 billion from C$1.02 billion in the prior year quarter.
The Board of Directors of Cascades declared a quarterly dividend of C$0.04 per share to be paid on March 23, to shareholders of record at the close of business on March 10, 2010.
Cascades produces, converts and markets packaging and tissue products composed mainly of recycled fibres.
