Russian authorities have suspended the work of a Chinese woodcutting enterprise in Russia's Jewish autonomous region for violating the Russian environmental protection regulations.
The Chinese woodcutters, who have taken a lease on a Russian forest area, have illegally built a bridge across the fish-rich Bidzhan River to transport wood, the region's chief fishery inspector Sergei Mokrov told Itar-Tass on Monday.
When building the bridge, the workers removed trees and bush along the bank line, and moreover, the Chinese gathered all the shellfish, delicacy for them, and caught other fish in the river.
A 20,000-rouble fine has been imposed on the Chinese enterprise's administration, Mokrov said.
Groups of fish protection specialists and environmentalists inspect the sites where other two Chinese woodcutting enterprises work.
