Mar 25, 2011. /Lesprom Network/. The newsprint sector saw European demand rise 0.9% (4,000 tonnes) in February compared to the year earlier period. European domestic shipments were also up at 1.9% (13,000 tonnes) higher than previous, as CEPIPRINT said in a press release received by Lesprom Network. Exports of newsprint, on the other hand, fell 10.2% (15,000 tonnes) last month leading to an overall dip of 0.2% (2,000 tonnes) in total shipments. Exports of the three other mechanical publication papers recorded a rise in February year-on-year. Overseas shipments of SC magazine were up 23.6% (13,000 tonnes), which helped to offset the 3.6% (10,000 tonnes) drop in domestic shipments last month. Total European shipments of SC rose 0.6% (2,000 tonnes) compared to the year earlier period. The coated mechanical reels (CMR) sector saw exports of the grade climb 26.8% (27,000 tonnes) during the same period. Domestic shipments of CMR decreased 0.8% (4,000 tonnes), but the rise in shipments overseas helped to boost total European shipments to 658,000 tonnes in February, 3.6% up on February 2010. Looking at uncoated mechanical (UM) papers, exports of the UM grade climbed 15.7% (5,000 tonnes) last month year-on year. Domestic shipments of UM were up 6.6% (10,000 tonnes), which resulted in an overall rise of 8.2% (16,000 tonnes) against February last year.
