BRUSSELS, Sept. 18, 2001 (paperloop.com) - FOEX's price index for northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) pulp remained flat today at $450/tonne. The Finnish company's price index for bleached hardwood kraft (BHK) pulp was in region of Euro 440/tonne and $400/tonne. As the dollar dropped against the euro by 1.6% during the past week, the dollar value for BHK climbed back to $400/tonne, while the euro BHK benchmark value dropped to Euro 439.40/tonne. The upward trend in last week's paper price index was reversed. The basket of non-EMU currencies weakened by around 1% against the euro, which explained most of the downward slide. The FOEX price index for A4 B copy paper dropped 0.45% to Euro 990.75/tonne. Benchmark prices remained mostly unchanged for the lightweight coated, coated woodfree and European newsprint price indexes. But the combination of a mixture of decreases and increases in reported prices, together with the currency movements, pushed the indexes downward by less than 0.1%.
