Oct 28, 2008. /Lesprom.com/. International Paper's Louisiana Mill in Bastrop announced plans for lack of order downtime for at least seven weeks. The downtime will occur in two segments.
The first shutdown will occur November 9 for a period of three weeks, and December 14 will begin the second downtime period of four weeks. The mill plans to be back in full operation between the downtime periods for two weeks beginning November 30.
“Due to a slow down in market pulp orders and an increasingly troubling economic outlook for the next several quarters, we are announcing lack of order downtime,” said Greg Van Voorhis, mill manager. “Our company is committed to managing our supply to meet the needs of our customers, including making adjustments for how our order book develops during the remainder of this fourth quarter and into 2009.”
Earlier this year, International Paper converted its Louisiana mill from uncoated freesheet papers to a 100% fluff and market pulp operation. The mill also took several days of downtime this past September due to a lack of market pulp orders.
