Mar 10, 2009. /Lesprom Network/. Furloughed paperworkers are back on the job at Katahdin Paper Co. in East Millinocket, Maine, thanks to some new orders, as Mainebiz Daily informed Lesprom Network .
Idled since February 6, most of the 140 workers are back at work, revving up the No. 5 paper machine that had been shut down for more than a month due to a decline in orders, reported the Bangor Daily News.
Management of the Fraser paper mill, which is owned by Toronto-based Brookfield Asset Management, decided to only run the machines when there were orders in hand to avoid creating speculative inventory. About 500 people work at the East Millinocket mill.
