Enterprises in the Republic of Komi's timber industry complex laid in 3.98 million cubic meters of wood last year, 14% less than in the year before, the Komi Industry Ministry has told Interfax. All told, wood shipments out of the republic last year were down 16% at 4,033 cubic meters. The main reason for the reduction in both was lower demand for low-grade and low merchantable wood, which account for 60%-62% of Komi's timber resources, also insufficient processing capacity in the republic. The company Ezhva stockpiled 1.038 million cubic meters of wood, Uchrezkeniye M-222 laid in 565,800 cubic meters, Koigorodsky Timbering Complex 360,900 cubic meters and Udorales 339,600 cubic meters. The ministry predicted that this year will see sector enterprises maintain last year's stockpiling and shipment levels.
