Jun 16, 2005. /Lesprom Network/. Mitsui Soko Co. will soon begin a service to collect, store and recycle the confidential documents that firms wish to discard, ultimately converting them into toilet tissue and other recycled-paper products.
For businesses, this is an environmentally friendly way to handle disposal of confidential documents, which they now have a legal responsibility to protect. And according to Mitsui Life Insurance Co., which will be the first customer of this service, the cost will be no different than that of shredding. For Mitsui Soko, the new service is a way to leverage its warehousing experience in a new type of business.
The service, dubbed secret post, was developed by Shiozawa Co., a seller and recycler of paper products.
At the client firm, all confidential documents are inserted into a slot in a locked box. Inside this box is a cardboard carton that around once a month is retrieved, sealed, and transported via locked truck to a warehouse.
From there, the sealed carton is shipped to a paper maker, where the carton with its confidential contents is processed into pulp for production of toilet tissue and other paper products.
Mitsui Soko will charge 1,000 yen ($9.2) per box for this service in the Kanto area and expects to generate sales of 150 million yen ($1 375 000) in the first year.
