Nov 23, 2004. /Lesprom Network/.The new name for Neusiedler SCP is Mondi Business Paper SCP. The IMPULS investment program, with a total cost of around Euro 240 million, has now been completed at Neusiedler SCP in Ruzomberok. In terms of both production quality and environmental impact the plant is now at the cutting edge in the pulp and paper manufacturing sector. Neusiedler SCP is jointly owned by Neusiedler AG and the Slovak Eco-Invest, each holding a 50% share. In the last two years, the owners have invested large sums in expanding the capacity of the PM18 paper machine which has been in operation since 1991. It now produces up to 290,000 tons a year in all grades. The IMPULS project has also yielded significan improvements for the environment. In particular, emissions have been significantly reduced through the use of the latest technology. The complete elimination of sulphur has resulted in a fall of more than 90% in odours. SO2 emissions have been cut by around 64% and therefore meet all BAT (Best Available Technology) standards. Furthermore, particulate emissions from the lime furnace have fallen by more than 95%. Thanks to the introduction of a new ozone bleaching stage, the plant also leads the way when it comes to organic chlorine compounds. Ozone is being utilised increasingly in pulp bleaching due to its high potency and selectivity. As it tends to attack the lignin first, it is ideal for the first bleaching stage. This means it is also possible to use significantly fewer bleaching chemicals in the downstream bleaching stages, a fact that greatly reduces the presence of substances such as AOX and CSB in waste water.
