Mar 28, 2005. /Lesprom Network/ Latvia increased round timber exports 3.5% to 4.057 million cub m in 2004 compared to 2003. The cost of exported round timber reached 35% to LVL 97.5 million ($52.7 million). 1.6 million cub m of softwood round timber were exported to Latvia in 2004, 114 thousand cub m – to Finland. A total of 1.8 million cub m of round timber were sold on the Swedish market, 297.7 thousand cub m – on the Finnish market. In 2004 round timber imports increased 73.6% to 797.5 thousand cub m compared to 2003. The cost of imported round timber increased 85.9% to LVL 26.4 million ($14.3 million). The majority of imports were composed by softwood timber. Round timber was imported to Latvia from Russia and Lithuania – 398 thousand cub m and 89 thousand cub m. In 2004 the cost of timber exports from Latvia reached LVL 749.3 million ($405 million).
