Swedish roundwood exports increased by 19% in January-August
Sweden’s exports of roundwood increased by 19% to 634,000 m³ (cubic meters excl. bark) in January-August 2103 compared to the same period in 2012. Exports of sawlogs increased only for spruce sawlogs. Exports of spruce pulpwood rose by 14%. Exports of by-products (chips, sawdust, wood residues etc.) fell by 31% to 293,000 m³.

roundwood increased by 19% to 634,000 m³ (cubic meters excl. bark) in
January-August 2103 compared to the same period in 2012. Exports of sawlogs
increased only for spruce sawlogs. Exports of spruce pulpwood rose by 14%.
Exports of by-products (chips, sawdust, wood residues etc.) fell by 31% to 293,000
m³, as Swedish Forest Agency said in the press release received by Lesprom
Network.
The value of exports of roundwood and chips etc. amounted to SEK 743.7
million ($113.4 million) in January-August 2013. The corresponding amount in
2012 was SEK 722.7 million ($110.2million).
The Nordic countries have traditionally been the dominant buyers. More
than 80% of roundwood exports go to the Nordic countries. Norway is by far the
largest importer were 56% of total exports of roundwood and chips etc. that
comes from Sweden.
Imports of roundwood increased by 4% to 7.2 million m³ in January-August
2103 compared to the same period in 2012. The largest volumes were of pine
pulpwood and birch pulpwood consisted of three-fifths of total roundwood.
Imports of pine pulpwood fell by 17% to 1.9 million m³, while birch pulpwood
decreased by 31% to 1.1 million. m³. Swedish imports of total roundwood and
chips from Latvia was 28%.
