Jul 25, 2007. /Lesprom Network/. Tembec announced on July 24, 2007 production shutdowns at its Pine Falls, Manitoba newsprint mill, including a one-week shutdown effective September 2, 2007 and a four day shutdown, effective December 24, 2007. “The combined effect of these shutdowns will result in a reduction in production of close to 6,000 tonnes of newsprint. The continuing weak newsprint market, coupled with the recent strengthening of the Canadian dollar warrant these temporary curtailments.” said Chris Black, senior vice president, newsprint division. The Pine Falls mill has an annual production capacity of 180 000 tonnes and employs 320 people. Management has met with employees to inform them of the company’s decision. Tembec is a large, diversified and integrated forest products company. With operations principally located in North America and in France, the company employs approximately 9 000 people. Tembec’s common shares are listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
