Sep 01, 2009. /Lesprom Network/. Arauco announced its purchase, through its Brazilian subsidiary Placas do Paraná S.A., of the wood-panel company Tafisa Brasil S.A. from SCS Beheer, B.V. and Tafiber-Tableros de Fibras Ibéricos, S.L., subsidiaries of Sonae Indústria S.A. In the all-cash transaction Arauco acquired full ownership of Tafisa for 305,374,586 reales (approximately $165.2 million). At the time of the purchase, Tafisa was valued at 420 million reales, (approximately $227 million) minus corresponding liabilities. Tafisa’s main asset is a production facility located in the city of Pien in the State of Paraná, Brazil. With a total installed capacity of 640 thousand cubic metres annually, the facility operates three production lines: two producing Medium Density Fiberboard and the third producing particleboard. The facility also has added-value lines to produce products for the construction and furniture industries. “This acquisition allows Arauco to strengthen its position in the Brazilian market for wooden panels,” said Arauco’s CEO Matías Domeyko. “It also facilitates our expansion throughout Latin America. The purchase is yet another demonstration of the company's commitment to sustained growth in the forestry sector, and, we believe, in its positive outlook for the future.”
