Jul 18, 2011. /Lesprom Network/. Сanfor's Vavenby mill, in British Columbia, Canada, is scheduled to reopen on September 6. Approximately 50 people will return to work at the mill in September, as ForestTalk reported.
The Vavenby mill was indefinitely closed along with the Canfor’s Radium and Rustad sawmills in May 2009 due to the downturn in the market.
In February, Canfor announced it planned to spend $24 million on upgrading the Vavenby sawmill and planer mill before reopening. The money was to go to a new canter line plus sorter and edger modifications at the sawmill, and auto-grading and sorting capacity at the planer mill
When at full production, the mill will produce approximately 240 million board feet of SPF (Spruce-Pine-Fir) lumber on an annual basis.
The company expects most of the production to go to the United States, with some to Japan and some high-grade products to the rest of Asia.
