Jun 02, 2005. /Lesprom Network/. Swiss specialty chemical company Clariant AG said the Finnish paper-industry labor dispute has had no impact so far on the demand for its paper chemical products. "So far, the strike is a non-event for us and has had no impact," said Clariant spokesman Walter Vaterlaus. A lockout imposed by paper companies, including some of the world's largest paper manufacturers, Stora Enso Oyj and UPM-Kymmene Corp. has closed mills in Finland since May 18 and this is expected to hit demand for paper chemical products. Nevertheless, Vaterlaus cautioned that a long-lasting labor dispute could hurt the performance of Clariant's textile, leather and paper chemicals business unit. "But the impact would be relatively small, as our paper chemicals business is just one of many business," Vaterlaus added. Clariant will report second-quarter results Aug. 4.
