One of the leading office paper makers, Dutch Mondi Packaging Paper B.V, has sought the permission of the Bulgarian antitrust watchdog to buy Bulgarian paper mill in Stamboliiski, southern Bulgaria, Politika said. The Commission for the Protection of Competition (CPC) is to decide on the market concentration stemming from the acquisition.
The Dutch company makes office paper under the Ideal Quality (IQ), Maestro, Maestro color, BIO Top 3, Nautilus, Rotatrim, Snegurochka and Zohar brands.
The Bulgarian paper and cellulose mill in Stamboliiski is the biggest on the Balkans.
The mill in Stamboliiski is owned by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the World Bank's investment arm, the International Finance Corporation (IFC). The long-term strategy of the two international institutions envisages the sale of the paper mill to a strategic investor.
