Mar 23, 2011. /Lesprom Network/. The European Union (EU) has been urged to make more money available for forestry investment in the Barents region of the continent. Ministers in some of the northern European countries that fall under this category have called for "enhanced co-operation" between the EU and Barents region, as KMS Baltics reported. The Barents region is a vast stretch of territory that covers an area between parts of Norway and westerly points of Russia. It is widely renowned for its plethora of natural resources, with much of Europe's exported metal deriving from this zone. Timber is also a major product from this area and Finnish government representative Jari Heiniluoma recently called for money to be ploughed into forestry and also upgrading transport links to aid distribution.
