Jun 10, 2008. /Lesprom.com/. Producers supplying newsprint to the German market said that demand had jumped significantly and much earlier than expected, Euwid pulp and paper reported. The background to this increased ordering by buyers was the recent sharp fall in overseas imports: business with North America, the Middle East and India was now more attractive than with Europe, manufacturers stated.
Spot offers had been rare in recent weeks, they added. In addition, plans to shut down paper machines were affecting the market. Suppliers also predicted growing demand for newsprint during major sporting events such as the Euro 2008 European football championships and the Olympic Games, although this would depend on advertising volumes.
