James Jones & Sons has started work on a new 18-acre development in Hangingshaw, Scotland, to expand its production of fencing products.

The new facility, which will be operational in summer 2017, will incorporate additional secondary processing and treatment facilities targeted primarily at increasing production of fencing products, including incised posts which have grown in popularity since James Jones launched them in 2013.

The centrepiece of the facility will be a 20,000+m2 storage shed, as big as three full size football pitches. This provides covered storage protecting finished stock from the elements, thereby maintaining stock integrity and consistency prior to despatch.

The storage area will also enhance the company’s ability to build stocks in a range of key fencing specifications ahead of seasonal demand and, more importantly, maintain stock availability and lead-times during peak periods.

Speaking about the development, James Jones’ Joint Managing Director, Ian Pirie, commented:“This new facility will allow us to greatly increase our ability to meet the demand for a wide range of fencing products. Forecasting demand is notoriously difficult but this facility allows us to react to fluctuations in customer demand and enable us to service the market more efficiently.”
