Sep 05, 2008. /Lesprom.com/. Japan’s forestry agency has proposed carbon labelling for wood-based products in order to allow consumers to see how they are limiting their carbon footprint, Timber Induastry Magazine reported. The system will initially be used for wood pellets to show the emission saving over fossil fuels, but could be extended to other wood-based products such as furniture to allow consumers to see the amount of carbon released from harvesting through to production. The move comes as part of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries' work to promote sustainable development of the forest-related industries from production to consumption.
