Oct 09, 2006. /Lesprom Network/. Burgo Group’s Duino mill in Italy has rebuilt the coating equipment on its LWC/MWC lines. To improve coat weight profiles, the OMC2 off-machine coater received new Metso Paper blade beams with coat weight CD control. The target of the rebuild was to improve paper quality and overall efficiency. The rebuilt coater came on stream in mid-August 2006, producing paper with targeted quality soon after start-up. Duino placed a repeat order for OMC2 after implementing a similar successful rebuild with Metso Paper on its OMC3 in 2004. Before these rebuilds, poor CD profiles were the root cause for the high percentage of rejected customer rolls and thus high quality costs. The mill is very pleased with the good results and smooth start-up of both rebuilds. The Duino paper mill, located by the Adriatic Sea in northeastern Italy, produces approximately 430 000 t/a of high-quality LWC and MWC grades for rotogravure and offset printing. The OMC 2 is a 5 080 mm wide off-machine coater running at an average speed of 1 000 m/min with two blade coating heads. The 8 300 mm wide OMC 3 runs at an average speed of 1 450 m/min, also with two blade coating heads. Metso Paper is the global market leader and a forerunner in pulp and paper technology.
