Jun 13, 2006. /Lesprom Network/. According to Raimo Särkelä, vice president and general manager of UPM Voikkaa, in Finland, outlook of UPM's Kaukas mills is positive, Esmerk reported. The mills have made good use of new ideas and innovations. Outlook of Kaukas paper mills is very bright, and the new power plant that will be built in cooperation with the city of Lappeenranta, will further boost the mills' operations.
According to Särkelä, the future must be built on the prospect that sales prices of paper will fall by 1-2% annually. Competition in the paper industry is fierce, and companies have to look for new ways of operating.
When radical changes take place, it is important to make sure that Finland still has a sufficient supply of skilled labour force in a few years time, Särkelä says.
