Jul 11, 2006. /Lesprom Network/. Companies clustered in the Slovak Pulp and Paper Industry Association (ZCPP) expect the new government to continue measures to improve the business environment, SITA reported. The new government should reduce regional differences, equalize conditions for foreign and local investors, preserve the stable Slovak currency and introduce the euro in line with the plan. To support the development of the pulp and paper industry it is necessary to guarantee long-term contracts for wood supplies and stability of wood prices, increase annual wood extraction, support planting of fast-growing wood species and biomass processing for energy generation. ZCPP secretary general Juraj Dlhopolcek said they expect agriculture ministry to create a governmental policy on pulpwood and introduce clear rules for wood processing statistics. According to Mr. Dlhopolcek long-term pulpwood supplies will allow Slovak paper and pulp companies to implement their development plans and curtail imports of this raw material.
