Apr 12, 2016. /Lesprom Network/. Swedish Forest Agency conducts annual survey by questionnaire on the production of seedlings for use in Sweden. According to the latest survey some 344 million seedlings were delivered in 2015. There was a decrease of about 7% compared with the year before, as Swedish Forest Agency said in the press release received by Lesprom Network.

The most common tree species are Norway spruce, which accounts for 53% of production. Scots pine accounts for 42% of the production while other species production accounts for 5%. Since 2011, the survey also includes lodgepole pine and birch.

Rooted planting material (86%) is the dominant method of production. Bare-rooted is 14% while the remaining production is virtually nonexistent. Most of the origin of seedlings comes from the Swedish plantations or Swedish stand, totally accounting for about 87%.
