Sep 14, 2005. /Lesprom Network/. A medium density fibreboard (MDF) processing plant considered the most advanced in Southeast Asia has been completed in the Nam Dong industrial zone in the central province of Quang Tri.
The facility will be inaugurated on Wednesday, 14 September, after two years of construction and operational testing by the Central Construction Company. Equipped with a MDF wood processing line meeting European standards, the factory was outfitted with machinery supplied by the Dieffen-bacher Group of Germany.
Investment capital for the VND457 billion ($29 million) project came mainly from the ministry of construction. Constructed on a 70,000 square meters site, the plant has a processing capacity of 60,000 cubic meters per year, said company officials.
MDF wood is typically made from recycled wood shavings and sawdust, by-products of lumber processing. It is used extensively today in construction and for making furniture, doors, and moldings.
Vietnam's wood products industry has export targets of $1.4 billion this year.
