In a letter to the State Department of Community Colleges and Workforce Development, the company said the closure is indefinite but is "expected to be long-term." Employees will continue to receive their regular pay and benefits through October 31, 2010, and will be eligible for severance and other unemployment benefits.
The plant produced engineered wood headers, beams and scaffolding planks. Last summer, Weyerhaeuser closed its Albany trucking facility, which had employed about 75 workers.
