Affected employees will be paid severance and provided with benefits and employment counseling, the company said.
Employees in the company's plywood division are not affected by the decision.
"We're obviously disappointed any time an industry is forced to have a cut back in employment. As the economy improves, we hope business will come back and they will be able to rehire, said Carteret County Economic Development Council Executive Director Dave Inscoe.
Atlantic Veneer, a leading manufacturer and global distributor of hardwood veneer, lumber and plywood, is the county's largest manufacturing employer with about 350 employees.
