Czech Lesy CR to extend $454 000 flood relief

Czech state-run forestry company Lesy Ceske Republiky will extend CZK 10 million ($454 000) to municipalities, affected by the floods that hit the Czech Republic at the beginning of April 2006. The company will grant the said funds to Czech towns and municipalities, in which more than five homes were flooded.
Czech Lesy CR, which manages almost half of the total forest area in the country, will also supply timber for the construction of wooden housing for people whose homes have been destroyed.
Local insurers expect the total value of insurance claims related to damages, inflicted by this spring floods to exceed CZK 1.0 billion ($45.4 million), compared to over CZK 33 billion ($1.5 billion) paid to Czech residents, affected by the August 2002 floods, according to Cerstve zpravy.
According to Czech insurance companies, the aftermath of the recent floods will be less severe than that of the deluge in August 2002, when the Czech Republic was hit by the worst flooding in more than a century.
