Jul 01, 2005. /Lesprom Network/. On July, 1 2005 Finnish pulp and paper industry lockout ended, spokesperson for the North-West Timber Sector Confederation (Russia) announced.
According to the confederation, Finnish timber industrialists and trade unions reached an agreement.
On July, 4 all locked out enterprises will be launched again.
According to preliminary estimations, the financial loss incurred by Russian timber producers (if the supplies remained frozen till September) may reach EUR 26 million. Russian timber enterprises supplying round timber to Finland incurred considerable loss due to the stoppage of Finnish enterprises. The storage sites of the Finnish enterprises are currently overstocked with goods, and Russian enterprises will not be able to supply timber by September or will carry out limited supplies.
According to the confederation, the Finnish are demanding that Russian enterprises decline timber prices which may result in additional loss of several million euros. Timber enterprises may therefore reduce production by 1/3 and decline the capitalization of national enterprises. Russian transportation companies have already incurred into serious loss. The lockout affected paper prices that are likely to increase 6-8% in August, furniture and timber goods prices may also rise. The least affected Russian timber sector enterprises were those providing high-quality timber procession.
