Malaysian Wood Expo 2019 to bring together technology experts and key decision makers representing the wood industry

The show is jointly organised by the Malaysian Timber Council and Panels & Furniture Group of wood magazines, two of the powerhouses in Southeast Asia’s timber and woodworking sector. It is endorsed by the Malaysian Wood Industries Association (MWIA), The Timber Exporters' Association of Malaysia (TEAM), The Malaysian Panel-Products Manufacturers' Association (MPMA), Malaysian Furniture Council (MFC), Malaysian Wood Moulding & Joinery Council (MWMJC) and Association of Malaysian Bumiputra Timber and Furniture Entrepreneurs (PEKA).

Currently, Malaysia’s wood products are experiencing a high demand from developed countries; with the country exporting to more than 160 countries. In 2017, the value of wood product exports up to June from Malaysia was RM11.5 billion with Japan and the U.S. as the main markets followed by India, Australia, Singapore, South Korea, United Kingdom, China, Taiwan and Thailand.

Timber exports from Malaysia were forecasted to increase by 5% in 2018, from RM 23.22 billion in 2017. And by 2022, the country aims to achieve the export target of RM 28 billion.

In addition, in order to remain competitive on the global stage, the Malaysian wood market is also looking to drive its market for more advanced woodworking machines in order to achieve high precision and quality.

With the wealth of business possibilities in Malaysia, MWE 2019 will be the first true coming together of top exhibitors in this part of the world.

Mr Richard Yu, CEO of Malaysian Timber Council, said, “MWE 2019 will be the avenue for both suppliers and buyers to tap into the unlimited business potential of Southeast Asia’s growing economies. ASEAN is a fast-emerging market and Malaysia being the second “most competitive economy within the 10- nation bloc is an excellent gateway to the member countries.”
