Aug 01, 2006. /Lesprom Network/. Oji Paper Co. said Monday it will start manufacturing pulp and paper products in 2009 at a factory it plans to build in the Chinese city of Nantong, Jiangsu province, Kyodo said. Oji Paper is planning to manufacture 400 000 tonnes a year of high-grade paper for printing use in the initial phase of the plant's operations with its output to be upped later to 800 000 tonnes, the company said.
The previous day, the company was authorized by the Chinese government's State Development and Reform Commission to build the factory in Nantong.
Oji is planning to ask for a separate authorization to increase the factory's annual output further to 1.2 million tonnes, it said.
Disheartened at the saturated Japanese market, Oji wants to cash in on growing Chinese demand for paper products, Oji officials said.
Major European paper makers are also moving to set up large-scale manufacturing facilities in China.
