Jan 16, 2012. /Lesprom Network/. With start-up of steam turbine no. 9 efficiency of power generation at Papier- und Kartonfabrik Varel has been increased significantly. Steam turbine no. 9 has an output of 13,9 MW and substitutes power generation of steam turbines nos. 1 and 2. Both were taken out of regular operation, but are still available as reserve capacity, as the company said in a press release received by Lesprom Network.
The main steam is led on the turbine at 480°C and 80 bar and exits at 170° and 6 bar. Compared with previous installation energy efficiency has been improved by 25%, which reduces specific CO2 -emissions significantly.
The new turbines weight is 25t and the generators 45t. Together with the gear box and auxiliary aggregates the total weight oft he unit is approximately 100t. The integration of such a complex segment into a running power plant is also a major logistical challenge, which our staff of energy division and others involved, passed with great success.
Papier- und Kartonfabrik Varel produces paper and board from 100% waste paper and is one of the leading producers of paper and board packaging in Europe.
