RIGA PORT cargo turnover up 18.9 pct in 11 months
Latvia's port of Riga handled 16.199 million tons of cargo in 11 months of this year, which is 18.6 percent more year-on-year, reported the port. The port handled dry-bulk cargo most of all, adding to 5.859 million tons, up 28 percent year-on-year. Most of the dry-bulk amounts was made up of coal on 2.141 million tons and chemical cargo on 1.533 million tons.

General cargo handled at Riga is still falling, down 3.3 percent on 5.493 million tons, most of this timber on 3.81 million tons. Liquid cargo totalled 4.847 million tons in 11 months at Riga, up 42.3 percent, most of this made up of oil products on 4.675 million tons.
In terms of cargo turnover increase, Latvia's third largest port Liepaja is still ahead of second-largest Riga, with Liepaja cargo turnover in ten months up 31.3 percent and the largest Latvian port Ventspils posting a fall in turnover by 23.6 percent. Last year the port of Riga handled a total of 14.884 million tons, which was 11.5 percent more than in the previous year.
