The paper packaging producer Segezda Packaging, which holds a production facility in Ploiesti, has ended last year with an Euro 11.3 million turnover, below the initial estimates of Euro 13 million, Packaging Europe reported. The 2008 figures mark nevertheless a 25% turnover increase compared to 2007, according to Ion Cernat, Segezda Packaging Economic Manager. “For the time being, the company is operating at only 25% of its standard production capacity, as it has a reduced number of orders deriving from the stagnation period characterizing the car industry” the company’s representatives declared. Segezda Packaging delivers packaging for clients in the building material industry, as well as in the food industry. The company’s representatives also stated that if the main users of Segezda Packaging paper sacks, and namely the cement factories recovered, the company would work at the same level as in the first half of last year. “In order to cover the necessary production, the company has signed for 2009 export contracts towards the Greek and Moldavian markets. The Group is presently negotiating with possible clients from Bulgaria and Turkey, which makes the company believe that at the end of this year it will be able to report a minimum 40% increase in sacks’ exports as compared to 2008” said Gabriel Angelescu, Marketing and Sales manager. This year, the company plans to enter the supermarket chain with paper packaging, replacing the plastic packaging used until now and complying with the soon in-force European regulation.
