Since 2000 Susendal Bygdesag has operated an active sawmill in Susendal, Hattfjelldal municipality. The company's primary activity is sawing and planing specialty timber. It specializes in slow-grown local timber from Hattfjelldal, characterized by tight growth rings that provide extra strength for structural materials and outstanding durability for cladding. The operation began with four farmers who wanted to run it as supplementary income to their farms. Main production has included log timber for traditional construction, restoration materials for protected buildings, heartwood pine products, 'villmarkspanel' and common building materials such as structural timber and cladding. In 2021 the business was reorganized as an AS and has 2–3 permanent employees and a major expansion. A 450 m3 hall was built and equipped with a new saw with a sorting table, a ripping saw and a large planer. The company aims to produce, as far as possible, materials that are difficult to obtain from regular timber merchants (special dimensions). In addition to standard lumber, it produces planed cladding and mouldings with special profiles.
