Dainihon Mokuzai Boufu contributes to achieving the SDGs and to carbon neutrality by promoting the use of wood. The SDGs are 17 goals adopted by the UN General Assembly in September 2015 to realize a sustainable and inclusive society by 2030. The company applies wood-preservation treatment technologies developed over about 100 years to prolong the life of timber and to use wood— a renewable resource— in ways that absorb and limit CO2 emissions, thereby helping to prevent global warming. Forests absorb atmospheric CO2 as they grow, and carbon remains stored in wood products and wooden buildings while they are in use. Increasing the use of wood therefore helps reduce atmospheric CO2, and wooden houses and buildings function as an "urban forest" or a "second forest." The company carries out various activities to put these principles into practice.
