In August 2024, Finland harvested 4.9 million m3 of industrial roundwood, marking an 8% decrease compared to the five-year average. Despite this, the total industrial roundwood harvest from January to August reached 38.1 million m3, maintaining parity with last year, according to a report from the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke).

Sawlog removals accounted for 2.4 million m3, while pulpwood removals were slightly higher at 2.5 million m3. Private forest owners contributed significantly, with 3.8 million m3 harvested — 4% more than in August 2023. Forest industry companies and state-owned forests contributed 1.2 million m3, a figure consistent with last year. Additionally, energywood removals totaled 560,000 m3, with 40% consisting of delimbed stems and whole trees.

Over the January-August period, industrial roundwood harvests saw a modest 1% decline compared to the previous year, totaling 38.1 million m3. This decline was driven by a 4% decrease in pulpwood removals, while log removals increased by 4%. Notably, pine logs saw an 8% increase, while hardwood pulpwood saw the steepest decline, falling 7% compared to the previous year and 16% compared to the five-year average. Energywood, in contrast, saw a slight increase of 1%, with a 9% rise over the five-year average.
