Mar 11, 2015. /Lesprom Network/. Hardwood specialist Danzer reports a positive business development for 2014. With 5%, Danzer’s 2014 sales grew faster than the industry average, due to investments in successful new products, yield increasing technologies and capacity additions. 

Hardwood specialist Danzer reports consolidated sales of Euro 232 million for the year 2014 after Euro 221 million in 2013 and Euro 211 million in 2012. The growth rate in 2014 was 5% after 5% in 2013 and 10% in 2012, as the company said in the press release received by Lesprom Network.

A main source for the above average growth have been, according to the company, successful new products and technologies, like scanned logs for optimized procurement, thick-cut sliced surface layers for the parquet industry and cross-cut 3D-Veneer inner layers for 3D-Plywood shells. The increasing utilization of the recently improved and expanded saw mill in Bradford, PA, USA also contributed to Danzer’s sales growth.

Over the last three years, Danzer invested approximately Euro 20 million in new technologies, equipment and products. In 2014, Danzer created 187 new jobs, 63 of which in Africa.

Danzer sold its products to 80 different countries worldwide. The top five countries accounted for 58.6% of total sales (USA, UK, China, France and Germany). Sales to these five countries grew by 15% on average. Sales to Northern and Eastern Europe, including Russia declined by 5% on average. Sales to Southern Europe and the Middle East increased by 9%.

Danzer’s 2014 sales by product type have been: sawn wood (lumber) 43%, sliced wood (veneer) 43% and logs 14%. Danzer reports to have sold more than 200 species in 2014; the top 30 species accounted for more than 90% of sales; overall sales distribution by region of origin: 44% North American species (mainly Walnut, White Oak, Black Cherry and Hard Maple), 32% African species (mainly Sapelli, Wenge, Sipo and Azobe) and 24% European species (mainly Oak, Ash, Beech and Birch).
