In the first quarter of the year, Finland’s energywood market experienced strong trade activity, with a total of 1.2 million cubic meters traded, marking the highest volume for this period since 2014. This represents a significant increase of 60% over the average volume of the past five years, according to the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke).

Prices for pruned stems in standing sales increased by 2% to Euro 22.1 per cubic meter, a rise of 15% compared to last year’s average. However, roadside prices for pruned stems held steady at Euro 47.3. In contrast, prices for logging residues in standing sales decreased by 4% to Euro 7.0 per cubic meter, also lower than last year's average. Delivery sales of logging residues saw an increase of 11% reaching Euro 29.9 per cubic meter.

Pruned stems accounted for 40% of the energywood trade, while logging residues made up almost half. The substantial trade volume increase is notable particularly in the context of logging residues, which saw a nearly 60% increase, and pruned stems, which rose by almost 50% compared to the previous five-year average.
