Sep 05, 2005. /Lesprom Network/. Mondi Business Paper Syktyvkarsky LPK (Komi Republic, Russia) plans to refuse utilization of uncertified under international standards wood in 3.5 year, company’s president Rinat Starkov said.
Mondi Business Paper Syktyvkarsky LPK is realizing the FSC certification for Kojgorodsky and Sysolsky forestries from 2000. The second stage of certification was entered to raise the share of certified raw material proceeded. All rented timberland of SLPK and its subsidiaries have to be certified.
“We would like to sell our production not only in Asian markets we are dealing with now, but also in more stricter Western markets. The competition in pulp and paper mills has moved from price to quality, and one of the part of this struggle is the certification of the forests”, Mr. Starkov noted.
According to Mr. Starkov, 3.5 year are enough for FSC-certification of all wood suppliers. Being adjusted with Forestry Agency of Komi Republic, it will be announced this year.
