Segezha Group doubles consumer paper packaging capacity at its Karelia mill in Russia

On the 7th of July 2016, Segezha Packaging Ltd. (part of Segezha Group) has launched a new paper bag making machine by Windmoller & Holscher (Germany) a month earlier than planned. Consequently, the enterprise's consumer paper packaging production capacities have doubled: Segezha Packaging can now produce up to 50 million individual products per year.

The new automated Triumph 5QT SM Servo machine was added to an identical machine that has been launched at the enterprise since 2005.

The line's universal equipment allows it to produce a wide range of consumer packaging — paper bags, carrier and block bottom bags, and is designed to work 24 hours a day. The machine's production capacity is around 24 million packaging units a year.
The launch of the new line will be able to satisfy consumer demand, which until recently exceeded production capacity.
About 150 million rubles were invested.

“The launch of new equipment at Segezha is another step in the gradual implementation of Segezha Group's long-term strategy for increasing capacities and paper packaging production volume,” noted Sergey Pomelov, Segezha Group's President and Chairman of the Board.

“We plan to invest Euro 98.4 million in paper packaging production by 2020. That includes investment in the development of Russian and foreign assets, purchase and construction of new manufacturing facilities and offices in both traditional presence regions as well as ones that are new for the holding company – in Latin America, the MENA region and South-East Asia,” he added.

“With the new modern machine we convert an additional 1.5 thousand tonnes of bag paper into the end product here, in Segezha, in Karelia,” emphasizes Sergey Pokusaev, CEO of Segezha Packaging.

Segezha Group is the largest vertically integrated forest industry holding company in Russia providing the full cycle of logging and added-value wood processing. The holding comprises Russian and European enterprises in the forest, woodworking and pulp and paper industries.
