Peel and stick wood planking manufacturer Stikwood is expanding into Michigan and bringing dozens of jobs to the area, as Woodworking Network reports.
The California-based company plans to invest $4.2 million into transforming an existing Kentwood building into a new distribution plant. Stikwood says it will hire 73 workers for the plant over the next three years.
The announcement comes after state officials approved a $400,000 incentive from the Michigan Strategic Fund for Stikwood. State officials report that Michigan competed with Utah, Texas, and Tennessee to bring Stikwood to the area.
“Stikwood has been an amazing story of growth for us,” said Stikwood CEO and owner Laura McCall in a release. “We’re excited to begin the next chapter of Stikwood’s story in West Michigan, a region known for its strong manufacturing heritage. The economic support, talented workforce, and great quality of life make the region an ideal place to locate our new facility, and we look forward to joining the West Michigan community.”
Introduced in 2012, Stikwood's signature product is the world’s first peel and stick reclaimed and sustainable wood planking. Designed for the commercial and residential marketplaces, products include peel and stick wood wall planking and wall art in a wide variety of finishes.
To manufacture such a product, company owners Jerry and Laura McCall invested in machinery that thinly slices layers from reclaimed wood. They also developed an effective adhesive – and determined how to place it on each panel. The couple have developed uses for every part of the reclaimed lumber they source.
